This blog offers the fruition of two high school students’ desire to grapple with the breadth of influences that have shaped American Art. As the year progresses, we hope to see our awareness flourish, specifically as it is supplemented by both our readings and historical analysis. The notable texts of American Encounters by Angela Miller, et al, Reading American Art by Marianne Doezema and Elizabeth Milroy, and Framing America: A Social History of American Art by Frances Pohl will serve as guides, augmenting our knowledge base. Published, progressively throughout the school year, will be analyses of periods and styles, artists, and specific artistic pieces. Our findings and analyses will be shared with viewers of this blog, conveying our love for both learning and art. The posts will include formal analyses, yet, as writers, we are excited to propose new ideas. Thus, we encourage our readers to comment, launching a rich discussion of artistic interpretation. We hope to spread our passion and understanding through our maintenance of Albers to Wyeth: An Introduction to American Art.
